History of the festival in ireland

World Oceans Festival marks the fourth in a series of successful events held in Ireland aimed at increasing awareness of the marine environment and the importance of ensuring its protection.

Previous events located at Howth, Co. Fingal were joined by many other organisations such as the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, Coastwatch and The Irish Seal Sanctuary hosted information booths and displays, coastal walks and storytelling. Last year alone thousands attended the marquee to find out more about marine life and conservation The event provides an important platform upon which to raise the profile of our marine heritage, as well as the threats to our marine environment.

Being an Island with over 7000km of coastline surrounded by some of the best marine habitats in Europe, Ireland is rich in marine life, but it could be richer. It is also important to raise awareness about our marine heritage and why it must be protected.

Building on the past events World Oceans Festival will once more highlight Irelands marine environment.
